Letter to the Editor:
Please write or call your Iowa lawmakers asking them not to defund Planned Parenthood as Terry Branstad has promised.
Iowa has reduced teen pregnancy by more than half in the last two decades. Now is not the time to eliminate providers for women's health care and birth control. Already because of privatizing Medicaid in Iowa, we have lost Central Iowa Family Planning in Grinnell and Marshalltown. (They did NOT provide abortions.)
There will not be enough providers for women without Planned Parenthood--especially poor women. Nationally the process has begun to repeal the ACA which is another loss for family planning. There is no research to support that taking away birth control helps lift people out of poverty.
