New Matchstick model on display
June 19, 2017

Pat Acton's newest matchstick model, Star Wars Millennium Falcon, is on display until July 25 at Matchstick Marvels Tourist Center in Gladbrook.

The Millennium Falcon is a spaceship in the Star Wars universe commanded by smuggler Han Solo and his Wookiee First Mate, Chewbacca. Acton began building his model in April, 2016, using 910,000 matchsticks and 26 gallons of wood glue. After 2500 hours of work, he finished earlier this month. The model has a retractable landing gear and cargo bay ramp, running lights, engine lights, landing lights, and forward flood lights. It includes sound, rotating dish, dual quad-laser guns, and a cockpit featuring fiber optic lighting, and weighs over 300 pounds.

The highly modified Corellian ship, a YT-1300 light freighter, appeared in Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983) and The Force Awakens (2015), with a brief cameo appearance in Revenge of the Sith (2005).

Ripley's Believe It or Not commissioned this model from Acton for placement in one of their world-wide museums.
