Coming off of two games on the road South Tama was back at Trojan field last Friday night for their fifth and sixth games of the week. STC hosted the Solon Spartans for another Wamac conference double header.

Solon entered the season after a strong run at the Class 3A State Championship in 2016. They fell to Harlan in the semifinals while Harlan went on to win the title. So far this season the Spartans have swept Vinton (ranked third), West Delaware (formerly ranked eighth) and have wins against Class 2A Beckman (ranked sixth) and Iowa City Regina (ranked tenth). On Friday the Spartans added wins to their record with a 9-1 victory in game one over the Trojans and a 12-5 win in game two.

The Trojans were able to get on the board in game two of their contest with Solon. Jackson Beltz, Kaiden Buffalo, Jake Wilkerson and Rian Simpson each had hits for the Trojans. Cael Kellogg and Jake Wilkerson recorded RBI's. Kellogg had one and Wilkerson had two.

Wamac teams that are currently in the rankings put out by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association include in Class 3A Vinton (3rd), Marion (6th), Solon (7th) and Class 2A Beckman, Dyersville (6th).

It has been a tough two weeks for the Trojans who have also faced Vinton and West Delaware. The Trojans nearly split a double header with the Vikings last Monday but ultimately fell 4-3 in game one and 16-1 in game two. They also suffered losses to West Delaware.

STC will be on the road much of next week with games at Williamsburg on Monday (6/19), Central DeWitt on Tuesday (6/20) and will close out the week at Mount Vernon on Thursday (6/22).
