South Tama celebrated Senior Night on the softball field at their last home game of the season. Seniors Allison Yuska, Lauren Yuska, Maci Fritz, Sabrina Holtz and Shae Slaven accompanied by their parents were presented with gifts and honored at the pitchers mound prior to the start of a non-conference game on Tuesday, June 27. The Trojans hosted Belle Plaine for the contest.

"These ladies have been a great group of seniors to coach. I am so very proud of all of them and feel very lucky to have gotten to coach them this past 5 years. They have also been some of the most hard working and coachable kids that I have coached. Each day they came to the ball field with a good attitude and were always willing to work to improve. They have left a very positive influence our softball program here at STC," said coach Chelsea Ahrens.

The Trojans fell to the Plainsmen 12-3. Taking the loss was incoming freshman Ashlynn Ellenbecker. Ellenbecker pitched all seven innings giving up 18 hits, 13 runs, walked two runners and struck out three batters. Leading the Trojans in hits was Allison Yuska, Maci Fritz, Sabrina Holtz, Jaelin Berger, Dalaynee Henle and Taylor Lekin with two each.

Earning the win for the Plainsmen was pitcher Katie Cubbage. She went all seven innings allowing 11 hits, three runs, walked two batters and struck out 6. Leading Belle Plaine in hits was Katy Ward with 5.

The Trojans will travel to Vinton to play Vinton in post season play tonight, Wednesday, July 5. The winner of round one will move on to play either East Marshall or Union in Union on Friday, July 7.
