For the first time in six years South Tama brought in a win over Vinton-Shellsburg. The Trojans travelled to Vinton on Tuesday, October 3 for the WaMaC conference contest.

The Trojans and the Vikings battled for five sets with Vinton winning the first set. The Trojans were able to find success on the north end of the court. They won the second and fourth sets on that end. According to head coach Amy Dolash, there was no solid reason why they were able to gather success on that end of the court other than maybe a little superstition.

The fifth set between the two teams went neck and neck especially towards the end. The Trojans gained a four point lead with Sadie Smith serving. Vinton however was able to play catchup and tie the score. The Trojans were able to keep their composure in front of a very rowdy Vinton student section and came out with the win.

The win was a solid team effort. Communication was key to the victory. Also, both Sadie Smith and Maddie Rohach had kill percentages in the 40's.

The real story of the season is that this win helped take the Trojans to their best season record since 2013. The 2013 team, who went 18-13, was being coached by Michelle Bradley. Bradley resigned that season as head coach but is still with the program as the freshman and sophomore coach.

The Trojans have now more than tripled their wins from last season. Those successes can largely be contributed to the commitment of this year's group. But it must also be said that Dolash continues to improve on her success with each season she has coached. This is Dolash's third season as varsity head coach.

Set scores: 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-15, 15-13

The Trojans competed at one last tournament on Saturday, October 7. The team travelled to Don Bosco High School and came away with a win over Waukon and two losses against Aplington-Parkersburg and Don Bosco. They will move into the post season with WaMaC Conference Pool Play on October 10. The Trojans will be hosting the pool play with the final rounds of the tournament set for October 12 in Vinton.
