Letter to the Editor:

My name is Hunter Davis of Boy Scout Troop 2000. I am contacting you about a project with the Lincoln Highway Bridge Association. In 1928 the Boy Scouts of America placed approximately 2,400 concrete markers at sites along the Lincoln Highway from New York's Time Square to San Francisco's Lincoln Park.

Today there are less than 1,000 thought to exist. Recently an original marker was donated to the Tama Lincoln Highway Bridge Park for placement in the park.

Since these markers were originally installed by the Boy Scouts of America, I would like to make the installation of this marker my Eagle Scout Project. With the cooperation of the Lincoln Highway Association, we have come up with a plan to install a kiosk in the Tama Lincoln Park.

This marker has been placed and will be in a protective polycarbonate material with a sign telling the history of the markers. Also on the kiosk will be the names of all the people/businesses that donated to the Lincoln Highway Association marker project.

This project will only be made possible with the support of our community. We have estimated that the total cost of this project will be somewhere around two to three thousand dollars and are asking for your support.

We thank you for any possible contribution. We hope that this project will be completed in the next two to four weeks.

UPDATE:

The Boy Scouts of America marker is now placed in the ground at the Lincoln Highway Park near the historical memorial. Finishing the Boy Scouts of America contribution to the Lincoln Highway Bridge Park is my goal.

Thanks to the Boy Scouts of Coralville and Tama - Toledo scut leaders and helpers. I greatly appreciate all the work that was done.

The monetary and memorial contributions that are coming in will complete the project.

For continued support please send donations to:
