South Tama Middle School Wrestling

The Middle School wrestling season was another successful one.

The team started the season with 17 wrestlers and 3 managers with and they had nine meets scheduled.

The middle school Trojans started practice toward the end of October and had two weeks to prepare for their first meet at Vinton.

Just like every year, the game plan is to work hard every practice and improve each day. "We stress with the kids to be great wrestlers you have to be great students whether it be in school or at practice, said Chyma, "We put a lot of emphasis on the little things, the so called basics of wrestling. Practices can get a little repetitive but they help the wrestlers get good at the basics, which is what wins matches."

Our season schedule: Nov. 7th 2-1, Nov. 9th 2-1, Nov. 13th 2-0, Nov. 21st 2-1, Nov. 27th 4-1, Dec. 1st 2-1, Dec. 8th 2-1, Dec. 12th 2-1, Dec. 15th 1-1.

The Trojans went 19-9 on the year. "The kids worked hard all season and it showed," said Chyma,

"The 8th graders made a big jump from last season and the 7th graders really showed their talent. The kids really represented South Tama Wrestling and showed people what to look forward to in the future. I really enjoyed working with this group."

Chyma would like to thank the South Tama Middle School staff. "We have a great thing going on there and a lot of support for our student athletes. I want to thank the parents for supporting me and your kids. Our staff-Nate VanDyke, Levi Kaufman, Jason Arp and Baron Davis. The people that help us with our home meets-Matt Probasco, Dirk Henle, Levi Hunterdos, Emily Chyma, Brett Branan and others. Lastly I want to thank my family for allowing me the opportunity to continue coaching these young men," said Chyma.
