New staff members, changes approved by South Tama School Board

A new teacher hiring and the resignation of a second were approved by the South Tama School Board meeting in special session at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 27.

Samantha Holtz will be an elementary and middle school talented and gifted teacher beginning this fall. She also will be assistant high school girls track coach.

The resignation of Sara McAndrew, middle school English language learner teacher, was accepted by the board.

In other personnel action the board approved Todd Dale as assistant football coach; Denise Rairdin as a high school night custodian; and the transfer of Sandra Jensen from high school custodian to high school / elementary school night custodian.

All actions were approved on voice votes with members Ron Houghton, Penny Tyynismaa, Alan Kline and Mandy Lekin present. Member Jackie Dvorak was absent.

In other business the school board approved:

building handbooks with minor changes to be made.

an audit report recommendation setting a charge for rental of concession space on the building rental fee chart. The cost will be five dollars per event not to exceed $50 annually. Board members said the Music Boosters group is he primary user of concession space.

1st reading of a board policy update raising the total daily meal allowance in travel expense to $40.

discontinuing the Johnson-O'Malley waiver for student registration fees due to funding cuts to the federal program for Native American students. An alternate source for assistance will be explored.
