Our summer reading program "Libraries Rock" is underway at the Tama Library. Children who signed up to participate this summer started reading and keeping their log sheets on June 1st. Our first program was on Tuesday June 5th for kids who will be in 1st through 12th grade this coming school year. Those who will be in preschool or kindergarten this fall attend on Thursdays. Their first program was June 7th.

On June 5th the presenter was Sam from the Grout Museum Science Outreach Program. The subject was Combustion. Balloons filled with hydrogen are combustible and make a really cool fireball when a match is applied. For our craft we made maracas and we did the Hokey Pokey dance with our maracas.

On Thursday we read the books Groovy Joe's Dance Party Countdown by Eric Litwin, Summer Color by Diana Murray, and listened to a CD book by Neil Sedaka, Waking up is hard to do, a great dancing song. The little ones makde maracas and did the Hokey Pokey too, ( they were much better at it than the older kids). Our treat both days was Koolaide and red Twisler vines. We gave away several summer reading shirts and prizes both days. Everyone received bookmarks and an activity sheet packet to do at home.
